“Headquartered in Chesapeake, AVMAC offers a diverse set of skills and services to its customers. Having worked primarily for the Department of Defense, it recently won its first contract with a Department of Transportation customer. Services provided include aircraft maintenance and repair, shipboard integration, and project and program management that includes technical support and logistics management.
Over the years, the company has experienced exponential growth in both revenue and customers. Being a part of the Small Business Administration Mentor-Protégé program helped propel it [AVMAC] and provided the resources and knowledge needed to succeed.
‘We don’t deal in commodities, we deal in human resource,’ [Bert] Ortiz [President/CEO and Co-founder of AVMAC LLC] said, ‘We have to hire smart people that fit the job requirements, and because of this, a lot of them are veterans.’
The three owners run a tight ship that has goals of becoming a 200-employee company by the end of the year. Over the next few years, they want to diversify into new customers and grow the firm’s physical presence in Virginia and California, where they have some employees.”
